The Nest of Rat
This prop is a little twisted. Shows a mother rat and her several rodent offspring. A creepy display indeed, measuring at about 14 inches.
Many kind of rat available on our environment, the example that exist in Britain has two kind of rats:
- The Ship Rat or black rat is rare in Britain
- Common Rat also known as brown or sewer rat, is the most abundant and widespread species found through Britain and described further. This kind of rat also available in several big city like in Jakarta, Singapore and Malaysia.
Adult rat weighs about 100 to 500 grams, measures about 24 cm excluding tail and have brown or black with grey fur underneath. It’s tail is shorter than the head and body together. In comparison, the house mouse weigh around 30 grams and is 10 cm long (excluding tail), they have large ears in relation to their body small feet and a tail which is longer than their body.
All rats need to survive are shelter, food and water.
- This rat usually dig shallow burrows and form nest with dry grass and leaves, in houses they will nest in wall cavities and beneath floor broads.
- This rat also good climbers and can climb on vertical brick walls.
- They are good swimmers and at home in sewers where they have food, water and shelter.
- This rats generally active in the night but may also be alert in the day
- This rat create living in order easily to run away on the threatening situation, between their living and the source of food and water.
- The live expectancy of this rats about one year, during which time a female will typically rat breed five times with an average litter of 8. The female rat will have their first litter at the age about 4 months. So if the percentage of sex is 50 % female you can calculate the average amount of rats will bird in a year.
